Almost 50 years ago, four Puerto Rican students, Ana Isabel, Ino, Bruni, and Maria advocated to the University to have a home away from home. Because of their lucha, La Casa Borinquena was founded in 1972. In 1985, La Casa Borinquena became the Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center (PRLACC). Since then, PRLACC has been more than a home away from home for our self-identify Latinx/a/o Huskies, it has become a place of empowerment, the vehicle that keeps driving their passion and helping them to make their dreams and aspirations come true.
Today, PRLACC empowers Latinx/a/o college students who come from different ethnic backgrounds, who are first-generation college students, who speak English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese; and who want to find a sense of belonging at UConn. PRLACC has programs like METAS (Mentoring, Educating, and Transforming to Achieve Success), the Latinx Student Leadership Council, which houses several student organizations, the Somos Huskies Scholarship, and other programs focused on academic, leadership, research, and cultural identity development. These programs help our students to find their true calling in life!
Your gift will be making it possible for PRLACC to keep propelling our Latinx/a/o Huskies to graduate from the University of Connecticut and make their dreams and aspirations a reality! Su regalo hara posible que PRLACC siga empujando a nuestros Huskies Latinx/a/os a graduarse de la Universidad de Connecticut y convertir sus suenos y aspiraciones en una realidad!
